Chapter 1

Fu Xiaoke sat in the lecture hall as she studied on her own. Suddenly, she felt someone lightly poke her back.

When she turned around, she found it was actually her classmate, Xu Song.

Her heartbeat involuntarily sped up.

“Fu Xiaoke, do you have an extra pen?” He shrugged his shoulders, his handsome smile  slightly embarrassed. “When I left the dorm, I didn’t pay attention, and forgot to bring one.”

Fu Xiaoke nodded, and passed him a pen. Her hand slightly trembled, but fortunately he didn’t notice. He actually knew her name!

He thanked her, and she shook her head to indicate that it was nothing much. From start to finish, she didn’t say a word.

It wasn’t that she was antisocial, or that she was unwilling to pay attention to other people. It was only that, when faced with the campus idol like Xu Song, many girls would probably act exactly like how she had, unable to speak a word.

Fu Xiaoke turned around, not knowing if she was currently feeling excited or strange, or whether she might be feeling a tiny bit nervous.

She never would have imagined that the Xu Song, who had once caused all the girls in the school to lose control and scream for three minutes when he performed at the school performance show, would actually know her name! This was the ordinary Fu Xiaoke, the unsophisticated Fu Xiaoke. This was the Fu Xiaoke would feel extremely contented from just a tiny matter- and he actually knew her name!

When she returned to the dorm, Old Third, Ning Zhixin was the only one there.

Fu Xiaoke related what had happened in the self study classroom to her.

After Ning Zhixin heard her story, she shook her head, and pitiful sighed, “Fourth Fool, in the future, you should play more with us! Don’t just keep self studying! Look at yourself, what have you become? You’ve even begun to have sexual fantasies about our great Xu handsome bro!”

Fu Xiaoke almost died from choking on her water.

It’s fine if you don’t believe me, it’s fine if you think I’m fantasizing, but putting “sexual” before fantasies is really really pushing it!

Ning Zhixin wasn’t the only one who didn’t believe her. When she told the other two people in her dorm, they all couldn’t believe it.

Boss said, “Xiaoke has made some progress! She can crack jokes now!”

Old Second said, “Xiaoke has undergone her first awakening of love! This is some great news. But, we have to give her some good advice. You had better find a more realistic target. Usually, people like Xu Song are on the level of a swan, and only toads will fantasize about swans. Because even if people like us fantasize about swans, it’s a waste of time, and honestly wastes your life away! So Xiaoke,” Old Second sincerely urged Xiaoke, “You better change your target to someone else!”

Her other dorm mate said, nonplussed, “I always thought that Xiaoke came to our school from a Buddhist monastery. I didn’t think that she actually has a worldly heart! You really can’t judge people from their cover. Just because someone’s clothes are plain, doesn’t mean they’re definitely a Daoist priest!”

When facing the hogwash from a group of ghouls and bogies, Fu Xiaoke really wanted to remove her mouth.

She always told them about everything, but no longer! Now, absolutely no one believed her and they all thought she was lecherous!

The second day, Fu Xiaoke and her dorm mates were together in the lecture hall for a common course*.

*TLN: Common course means a course that everyone is required to take, regardless of major.

Halfway through the class, her head lowered to take her notes, Fu Xiaoke suddenly felt that her surroundings became restless.

It seemed like someone had entered the classroom because the teacher pleasantly said, “Go find a place to sit!”

She looked up, wanting to ask Ning Zhining who had come in, but upon seeing that Devilish Ning was completely engrossed in the scene before her, she also looked over.

She was just about to sneer at her, but then someone lightly poked her back. At the same time, Fu Xiaoke saw Ning Zhixin’s  eyes widen, as she quickly turned back around and looked at Fu Xiaoke with fright.

Fu Xiaoke felt that her stare was so random, so she rolled her eyes and turned around to see who had poked her.

“Fu Xiaoke! Here’s your pen! Yesterday I forgot to give it back to you!” Behind her, Xu Song flashed a splendid smile at her. He gave her the pen while getting a bit closer to her, “Thank you for your pen!”

In the midst of her confusion, Fu Xiaoke squeezed out a smile and replied, “No problem! It was only a pen…” She took her pen back and turned back around. Her nervous and cramped smile was still on her face; she had completely forgotten she could relax now!

Ning Zhixin ferociously pinched her leg, making her cry out with pain.

“Why’d you poke me?!”

Ning Zhixin looked at her with absolute indignance. “Fool! If you could tell him ‘It was only a pen’, then why wouldn’t you just go ahead and tell him ‘I have enough pens, you can keep this pen for now!’ so that in the future, we could have another excuse to have him return the pen! What does this imply now? This implies that in the future, we won’t have another opportunity to get close to him!!!”

When Ning Zhixin finished, she heard a crisp “crack” sound come from Fu Xiaoke’s hand.

Fu Xiaoke looked at the broken pen in her hand. She looked back at Ning Zhixin and her lips twitched, as she stuttered, “O-o-old Third, i-i-i-t’s already too late!” She innocently murmured, “Next time, next time don’t be so excited when you say stuff like that, because when you get excited like that, I want to break something…”

Ning Zhixin facepalmed herself with the table. Fu Xiaoke hung her head innocently.

A low laugh came from behind them.

Fu Xiaoke held her broken pen, feeling her face and ears start to burn red.

If the matter of Xu Song returning her pen made Ning Zhixin and the other dorm mates feel shock, what would soon follow would be enough to make both their eyeballs pop out and their IQs fall to the ground.

They soon discovered a pattern: During their independent study time, Xu Song would sit behind Fu Xiaoke and borrow her pen. When class started, he would still be behind Fu Xiaoke, returning the pen he borrowed from before.

Once when he was returning the pen, Fu Xiaoke hesitantly said, “I don’t think this is the pen that I lent you yesterday…” However, before she could finish, she was quickly stopped by the three beautiful ladies beside her, who immediately blocked her mouth, and turned her head back around. Then, they laughed at Xu Song flatteringly, “Yes, yes! It’s this pen! Xiaoke is a bit foolish, and her eyesight isn’t quite good!” They turned around immediately afterwards, their faces changing abruptly.

Then, they fiercely informed Fu Xiaoke, “Even if it isn’t the same pen, you can’t say it aloud! Even if it isn’t the same pen, you must say it is the same pen! Got it?”

They had made Fu Xiaoke thoroughly perplexed.

“So, should I say something or not?”

The three beauties fell face first onto the desks one by one.

From behind, a quiet low chuckle could be heard.

Fu Xiaoke couldn’t help but turn around.

“S-sorry, they’re saying, that this is my pen……hehe……”

Xu Song could no longer hold it back and his laughter began to grow louder.

“No, this time it was my fault for not acting in concert with you. Please forgive me! I won’t choose the wrong pen next time!”

“…What?”

Fu Xiaoke’s eyes grew big.

He…uh…what kind of answer was this…?

The next time he wanted to borrow a pen during their independent study time, Fu Xiaoke said her usual “You’re welcome” as she handed a pen to Xu Song. Once she finished handing him the pen, she would again turn back around without another word.

It wasn’t as if she didn’t want to say anything, quite the contrary, she had too many things that she wanted to say to the point that she didn’t even know where to begin. Thus, she could only secretly bottle up her feelings, which ended up in her not saying anything at all.

The student who had been sitting next to her had already packed up his books and left.

The seat had only been vacated for a few moments before someone else immediately sat there.

Fu Xiaoke’s head was lowered  in frustration as she began to earnestly consider whether to come up with excuses to turn around and say a few words, while being completely oblivious to the people coming and going.

Her seat partner poked her.

The feeling she felt and the amount of force used when being poked felt extremely familiar……

Looking over she suddenly saw a familiar face with a radiant, bright smile peering down at her.

“You……!” Fu Xiaoke quickly turned her head to confirm that the seat behind her was empty. She then quickly turned back around, staring wide eyed at the person next to her, before she greeted him with random words, “You……Hi, hello, nice to meet you!”

Xu Song blinked a few times and covered his mouth with his hand to cough, unable to stop himself from smiling. “It’s like you’re seeing me for the very first time!”

Fu Xiaoke began to chuckle, her hands and feet becoming a little fidgety. Suddenly, she lifted the pen she was using into the air, and laughed. “You can borrow this pen!”

Xu Song burst out into laughter, triumphantly revealing the pen in his hand, he smiles and says: “You already lent me a pen!”

Fu Xiaoke felt so embarrassed that her stomach seemed to turn…

Embarrassed, she wanted to take her hand back, but someone grabbed onto it.

She looked up in astonishment. Xu Song was holding onto her wrist, and he wasn’t letting go of it.

“Fu Xiaoke, “ He suddenly stopped smiling and stared at her intently. His handsome, forceful face made her afraid to return his gaze.

“…Uh, what’s the matter…?” Fu Xiaoke felt blinded as her heart began to beat like a drum. Thump. Thump. Thump.

“Nothing much,” However, he still held on to her wrist, his grip tightening, “I just wanted to say that I’m getting a little impatient with just borrowing and returning your pens!”

Fu Xiaoke’s eyes went wide and after she blinked a few times, she extended her other hand and grabbed the pen that he had left on his table.

“Then I’ll just take it back!”

After she grabbed her pen, she wanted to take her hand back, but she never would have anticipated that he would grasp her wrist there, making her unable to move at all.

Fu Xiaoke lifted her head and looked at Xu Song, her eyes filled with a hundred thousand questions.

Grasping her two wrists in his own, Xu Song lowered his head and pressed up against her face. With an alluring smile, he softly said, “Who cares about borrowing or returning pens? I’ve already become impatient. I want to tell you that the pen is just a pretense. What I really want is to be your friend!”

Fu Xiaoke dumbfoundedly stared at the handsome face before her, so shocked that she was unable to say a single word.
