Roll that Review: Lucia

As expected, just by touching her hair, she could feel its untidyness. Even without looking at a mirror, it was obvious it was a mess.

“Pretty? This look?”

“I don’t know what’s wrong with it, you look pretty.”

His expression did not change at all. It was as though he was looking at a tree and saying it was a tree. As Lucia kept staring at him doubtfully, his expression grew increasingly awkward.

“Is it that you don’t like that way of expression? Then, your beauty is so bright, it blinds the eye…”

“Are you making fun of me?”

Lucia retorted sullenly.

COUGH COUGH. D-don’t mind me. Just dropping in an adult content novel that I read twice now in like the past week for review… Anyway, welcome to this weeks Roll that Review! This novel is an adult content romance and I SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU ARE NOT OF AGE TO NOT READ IT that being said… shall we? Also spoilers and whatever.

(it being the review and also the novel itself, it’s 18+.)

luciaTitle: Lucia

Author: Covering the Sky (하늘가리기)

Series: Standalone

Rating: ★★★★★★★★ (8/10 stars)

~It doesn’t get this rating because it’s a smut novel, but because it’s legitimately charming and a good read.~

Lucia grew up not knowing she was a princess.

But when her mother died, she entered the palace and had the chance to see her entire future in a dream.

In her dream, when she reached 19 years old, she was auctioned off to the bidder who offered the highest dowry. Her life became miserable from then on.

When she woke up from her dream, she was determined to reshape her future, realizing that she had plenty of time before the crucial turning point.

Thus, she begins her journey to change her dark future.

Lucia Positives

Chapter length: My GOODNESS these chapters feel longer than heck! @_@ I can’t believe that the chapters are as long as they are. I mean it’s absolutely amazing because you get so much out of them, but whew –fans self– I hadn’t thought I’d read something as racy as it is with the length it has. Of course on rubymaybe translations website, the chapters are cut in half but they are still pretty long. It gives you enough information and they interact well enough every chapter. I absolutely think that the chapters are of satisfying length, particularly when they are cut in half. It gives you just enough but not too much but it is easier to read. Still, I enjoy how long it is in the bulk of it anyway.

Characters: Hahaha, oh my god yes, please. I love Lucia, she’s super cheeky and manages to control Hugo/Hugh perfectly. Lucia is brave and clever, gambling her future on an unknown and (rather) dangerous man, asking his hand in marriage. That man, Hugo, is a violent, oppressive, womanizing, cold jerk… until he experiences Lucia‘s body for the first time…

While I say that, the supporting cast are all very lovely. From the cheeky adjutant Fabian, the even cheekier knight Roy, the obedient (and kind of pitiful) Jerome, with the final absolutely lovely addition of the (technically) adopted and endearing Damian.

The flow of their interactions is a joy to read, especially whenever one of them gets in a little bit of trouble or act cute, heh. My personal favorites are usually whenever Jerome realizes he has made a mistake, hehe. Such as the situations with accidentally spilling some beans and at one point literally spilling tea. But everyone is colorful and have a close-knit, comfortable feeling which can bring warmth to your heart. I am looking forward to the future reactions between the lot of everyone.

Hugo: Ok, so technically its Hugh, but. I adore Hugo. Again, normally I hate men who are overbearing and controlling but he’s not necessarily exactly that. He’s an interesting character because he goes from being a cold and flirtatious playboy who uses women like tissues to an overly doting husband. Granted its love built from sexual gratification at first but… eventually, he truly comes to fall in love with Lucia. Yes, he adores her body, but eventually, he comes to enjoy her as a person because of how she’s different from everyone.

Hugo slowly begins to start feeling almost human. He realizes how to enjoy spending time with someone, just talking with them or even looking at them. He went through life hating almost everyone except his deceased twin brother, even hating himself, but when she is introduced into his life his world begins opening up in a way that lets him realize what it means to actually live. He admits his wrongs (as well as he can) and tries his best to redeem himself in front of Lucia, though he struggles somewhat.

His concerns over her are also somewhat humorous when you think about it. He allows her to go out and spend time with Kate Milton; but only after he builds a women-only equestrian center, makes designated women-only days on the large lake, and blocks off an entire forest so there are only women allowed nearby, just so that men don’t see her. Yet, still, Lucia claims she’s not kept in the castle locked away… even though technically she is because she has no interest in leaving the castle and also loves him back.

He’s also kinda (sorta very) bitter about how she keeps telling him she won’t ever fall in love with him (even though she currently is in love with him). It’s all his fault really, but if he were to somehow confess almost everything would calm down, I think, lol.

Romance: Yeah, there’s romance… almost a disgusting amount of sweetness and Snu Snu.  Especially snu snu. Rather than it starting with a slow romance like most novels, such as Return of the SwallowSYDN, or even Transmigrator meets Reincarnator, the novel storms right out of the gate towards marriage and a sexual relationship between the male lead and female lead. After which the two enjoy their married life and gradually come to admire each other even more. Hugo admires Lucia because of her bright nature, body, quirky behavior, body and BODY and gentle demeanor. Lucia likes him because he’s surprisingly gentle, intelligent and strong, plus it helps that he’s ridic handsome.

Their relationship develops easily, with the two getting along quite well. Even Hugo‘s servants are surprised with how able Lucia is with dealing with him. Anywho, Hugo figuratively has to go through hoops just to have Lucia buy anything for herself, but he has no qualms about spending large sums of money and incredible effort to buy her items that he thinks she’d like. He even vowed off roses (any color) for her sake because of how he used to have the theme of sending yellow roses to ex-lovers and Lucia herself had said whenever she loses her head and falls in love with him to send her a rose.

It’s just cute tit for tat and snuggling with (lots of) snu snu. He’s a big fluffy puppy unless someone gets in his or her way, then he’s a roaring lion/dragon.

I’ve also never felt this much angst over a light novel because it has a marriage and snu snu but no confession. Normally I’m upset because there is a confession and marriage but no snu snu or a confession and no marriage and no snu snu…. or a confession and marriage and the snu snu is blacked out and left wanting when everything else is great.

Descriptions: I love, love, love, love the descriptions in the light novel. I feel like at the right moment the environment or outfits of the characters are described appropriately. It’s not to the point where it’s excessive nor is it ignored. It flows well and makes it easy for one to imagine the story as it moves on. Granted it also helps that you’d tend to imagine a baroque (or equivalent) style environment anyway but… it just is a good read. Plus the way that the snu snu is described is almost criminal. A lot of description… haha… ha… probably the most descriptive part of the story is their snu snu…

The intricacy of nobles and background: The effort put into the hierarchy and intricacy of the nobles is very interesting. I absolutely adore how the relations between the different nobles work and even the background of the kingdom and Hugo‘s family background. The fact that Hugo‘s family used to be ‘true nobles‘ and they became archdukes, then demoted to duke really makes me wonder. I don’t know. I just really love backgrounds for characters or civilizations. I usually won’t skip it unless I’ve read it way too many times.

How the flower viewing party party-break is described also interests me. How the parties function isn’t 100% described yet you can get a feel of what is going on through the interactions described. Plus it’s just way too interesting to ignore the social implications of an illegitimate heir turned legally adopted-turned biological (sort of) heir like Damian. I want to learn more about the interactions between the caste and the interactions between various individuals.

Lucia Negatives

Confession: YOU’RE BREAKIN’ MY BALLS HUGO AND LUCIA. CONFESS ALREADY. PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY. JUST DO IT. CONFESS. PLEASE.

Translation: Translation quality is sometimes good sometimes not good. Sometimes keywords are missing or tense is wrong or the word is completely wrong entirely. I also found 1 instance of incorrect pronoun and one other instance where the name was accidentally swapped. Other than that though it’s alright.

Philip: You touch Lucia and it’s not only Hugo who will beat you to death, old man. You step exactly 149,597,870 km away from our precious girl. That means go from earth to the sun. Immediately. Kthnx. No one wants you. You served your purpose in Lucia‘s dream. Now go. Shoo. Leave. Hugo doesn’t even want a baby right now so don’t try and help Lucia become fertile again all sneaky like. You already ruined Anna, you dumb old bag.

This is all that I can think of right now! I’m enjoying the story and iv’e already read it twice >3>;. ANYWAY, I’M GOING CAMPING THIS WEEKEND and i dont know when i’ll be back and I won’t be able to (at all) use the internet and read any stories so most likely no review next weekIn exchange, however, I may put up a teaser for a special project I’m doing personally. Depending on how that’s received I’ll shuffle around my schedule and give you guys some good things!

no reccomendation this week. I haven’t really read anything not worth reviewing but worth recommending. TTATT

    1. The lightnovel in its native language (Korean) is completed with 146 chapters, however theres only 64 chapters translated (technically I think 63 chapters and the prologue because sleepykorean (prologue + chapters 1-17) has a different numbering system than RubyMaybe who counts the prologue as 1 chapter)

but anyway, if you do end up reading it it’s very good! I quite enjoyed it and even read it twice >//w//<

  1. I just put that on my reading list like last week – and I was spreading thinking of dropping it because I was uncertain of quality. I think I will keep it for a lonely, rainy day . . .

    1. Hello! finally got the time to write something lol. went camping.. sorta need phone service to reply back if i dont have a pc and internet lol..

Anyway, the translation quality itself is probably a 3/5. It’s not horrible but the story itself is quite good. I would recommend if you like having more to read to wait until there’s more translation. Although the chapters themselves are long after it’s picked up by mayberuby it’s cut in half so it’s not as much to bulk read. If you’re fine waiting then be my guest and read them as the half chapters come out. 😊
